What type of insurance do hotels need?

While every business is different, some types of insurance are more suited to hotels and guest houses. Here are some covers you may want to consider.

Public liability insurance

Designed to cover claims made against you by members of the public for property damage and accidental bodily injury, illness, disease or even death as a result of your work. It can also pay your legal fees and compensation costs.

Employers' liability insurance

This can cover the legal and compensation costs associated with claims made by employees for injuries on the job and work-related illness. If you have any staff, this is likely to be a legal requirement.

Business interruption insurance

Can cover a loss of revenue you suffer following an unexpected event causing downtime to your trading. It can also pay for the additional costs you face to get your business up and running again.

Equipment insurance

Designed to pay for repairs or replacement if your kit gets lost, damaged or forcibly stolen.
From work essentials, like point-of-sale PDAs, laptops and phones, to more specialist kit.

Stock cover

Stock cover helps keep things running smoothly if your stock is damaged or lost. It includes protection for refrigerated items that spoil, as well as general stock like dry goods, fresh produce, bottled drinks and packaged items.

Contents cover

This is designed to cover items like beds, tables and soft furnishings, and pretty much all other stuff in, on or around your premises that you own or are responsible for, including your crockery, glassware and bedding.

Cyber insurance

Designed to cover any business which operates online or is exposed to the internet and the risks that come with storing and handling customer data when running a business.

FAQs

Do I need business insurance?

Business insurance can play an important role in protecting hotel businesses from the associated costs of claims.

It can provide financial compensation in the event of a claim, helping your business get back on track.

You might also need insurance to join certain professional organisations, trade bodies or platforms such as HBX group. Some customers and clients may also prefer to work with businesses who are insured.

How do HBX group and Superscript work together?

Superscript are HBX Group's preferred insurance partner, based on our shared commitment to deep industry expertise and strong customer service.

How can I get covered?

Getting covered with Superscript is simple, just click 'book a meeting' and select a time that works for you.

You can also be referred directly to one of our brokers by your Account Manager at HBX group. Your dedicated broker will then follow up to learn a bit more about your business and discuss your insurance requirements.

What happens when I book a meeting?

Once you've booked a meeting, our team will get on the case. You'll have a one-on-one session with your dedicated broker, who'll ask a few questions about your business and provide guidance and advice based exactly on your needs.

Once you've confirmed your cover requirement, they'll work on your quotes, clearly laying out your competitive cover options, from market-leading insurers.

Most businesses will get their quotes on the same day for most cases. More complex cases, or those made at the weekend, may take a fraction longer.

Once you take out cover, you'll get instant access to your documents, and your broker will check in throughout the policy period to keep on top of your risk in case your business requirements change.

You can also give us a call on 0333 772 0759, or send an email to hello@gosuperscript.com.

How do I get my insurance documents?

Once you take out a policy with Superscript, you'll get instant access to your insurance documents. Simply log in to your online account to view all the details of your cover.

How do I make a claim?

We know how stressful a claim can be, so we try to make the process as easy and hassle-free as possible.

You can start a claim through our online customer portal. Log in and go to the ‘Make a Claim’ section, where you should provide as much detail as possible about your claim – this includes a crime reference number (if applicable), the date of loss or claim made against you, and the type of claim. You can also attach any relevant supporting documentation.

Once you’ve submitted your claim, an expert from our in-house, UK-based claims team will get in touch with you as soon as possible.

Is there anything Superscript can't cover?

We'd love to cover everything – but we do have some exclusions, which depend on the nature of your work and the covers you require.

Your dedicated advisor will discuss your requirements in detail and will work with market-leading insurers to recommend cover that meets your needs.

Once you've completed a quote, you'll be able to view a summary of cover. Please always refer to your policy documents for full details around exclusions, terms and limits of your customised cover.
